Design Engineer-Dallas, TX

MV Engineering (Dallas, TX) seeks Design Engineer to design and prepare engineering plans for traffic control and construction sequencing, stormwater management, signing & pavement markings, and roadway demolition/construction on highway rehabilitation projects utilizing State and/or Federal design standards. Design the layout, plans and profiles for public utilities on city street improvement projects utilizing applicable design standards and accepted practices. Prepare quantity, probable construction cost and project timeline estimates. Develop design ideas for new or improved transport infrastructure, such as junction improvements, pedestrian projects, bus facilities, and car parking areas. Collaborate with engineers to research, analyze, or resolve complex transportation design issues. Respond to requests for information (RFIs) and coordinate with engineers in providing post-design (construction) services.

Requires a master’s degree in civil engineering and 6 months of experience as an Engineering Technician.

Structural Engineer-Houston, TX

Responsibilities

  • Provide detailed design calculations in support of signed and sealed plan sheets

  • Provide preliminary layouts, specifications, bill of quantities and final plan sheets

  • Prepare written bridge type selection reports

  • Review the work of other engineers

  • Train and mentor less experienced engineers

  • Supervise and review the work of CAD drafting technicians

  • Work closely with other disciplines within the company

Minimum Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (emphasis on structures preferred) from an ABET accredited institution

  • Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Texas

  • 5+ years of experience in the design of highway bridges

  • Experience with Texas Department of Transportation design and plan development

  • Working knowledge of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications

  • Working knowledge of MicroStation drafting software

  • Working knowledge of TxDOT design software such as BGS (Bridge Geometry System) and PGSUPER

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel

  • Good verbal and written communication skills

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Master’s degree in Civil Engineering (emphasis on structures) from an ABET accredited institution

  • Ability to attain reciprocity in other states for professional licensing

  • Working knowledge of Midas Civil design software

  • Working knowledge of VBent substructure design software

  • Working knowledge of GEOPAK and OpenBridge Designer

  • Good verbal and written communication skills

Project Engineer/Project Manager-Dallas, TX

Responsibilities

  • Design and prepare engineering plans for:
    • Roadway geometric design for highways and metropolitan agencies,
    • traffic control and construction sequencing,
    • stormwater management,
    • signing & pavement markings, and
    • roadway demolition/construction on highway rehabilitation projects utilizing State and/or Federal design standards.
    • Retaining wall layout – horizontal & vertical geometry
  • Design the layout, plans and profiles for public utilities on city street improvement projects utilizing applicable design standards and accepted practices.
  • Prepare quantity, probable construction cost and project timeline estimates.
  • Develop design ideas for new or improved transport infrastructure, such as junction improvements, pedestrian projects, bus facilities, and car parking areas.
  • Collaborate with engineers to research, analyze, or resolve complex transportation design issues.
  • Respond to requests for information (RFIs) and coordinate with engineers in providing post-design (construction) services.
  • Mentor junior engineers/EITs in career development
  • Attend project meetings and prepare necessary exhibits for project facilitation.
  • Add value to the company’s growth initiatives with strategic networking.

Qualifications

  • Requires a Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering (Master’s degree in Transportation preferred)
  • 4-10 yrs of civil/transportation design experience
  • Prior TxDOT (other DOT is acceptable) experience.
  • Texas PE license or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • Proficiency in MicroStation, ProjectWise, OpenRoads and InRoads/Geopak, signCad, AutoTurn.
  • Basic to advanced knowledge of 3D modeling.
  • Basic skills in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to clearly communicate and collaborate with Engineers, Designers, and Clients.
  • Ability to work effectively on a team of engineers, technical experts, and designers, as well as working independently with little supervision.
  • Ability to provide guidance and training to junior engineers/EITs while maintaining individual productivity.
  • Possess critical thinking skills necessary to plan, conceptualize and anticipate tasks.
  • Capable of recognizing conflicts and discrepancies with strong attention to detail.
